Martijn was born in Delfzijl, The Netherlands, and obtained his BSc in chemistry at the University of Groningen in 2021. During his BSc studies, he did a board year at the study association De Chemische Binding. He performed a research internship under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nathalie Katsonis, investigating droplet motility, and his BSc thesis under Dr. Loredana Protesescu, investigating novel cathode materials for Li-ion batteries. During his MSc studies, Martijn became interested in sustainable chemistry, and in August 2022, he joined the Beil group to work on photoredox catalysis. In his free time, Martijn enjoys climbing, cycling, and a good book.
