Alexandra was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1997. She obtained her BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Bryn Mawr College (Pennsylvania, United States) in 2020. For her undergraduate research, Alexandra worked under the supervision of prof. William P. Malachowski on the efficient generation of potentially therapeutic tricyclic ring systems with quaternary carbon stereocenters via a catalytic enantioselective Birch-Heck pathway. Subsequently, Alexandra moved to Groningen in 2020, for a MSc degree in Chemistry, for which she conducted her master thesis project in the Feringa group working on the regioselective preparation of 1,5-enynes from in situ generated propargyllithium species.
Then, she conducted a second research project at Symeres B.V. where she worked on the synthesis of unique scaffolds for developing screening libraries. After completing her MSc degree in 2022, Alexandra started a PhD focused on the anti-Markovnikov functionalization of olefins, as an ARC CBBC researcher, supervised by prof. dr. Ben Feringa and dr. Sebastian Beil. In her free time, Alexandra enjoys cooking, reading and taking walks while listening to podcasts.
