Recently Mahdi started as a new PhD student and is going to work on bio-based materials for new coating applications. Within the ARC CBBC and together with Tobias Schnitzer we will investigate materials for our industrial partners from BASF and AkzoNobel.

We are really happy that our recent publication in ACS Catalysis on the selective oxidation of glycosides was now highlighted in Some Items of Interest to Process R&D Chemists and Engineers in Organic Process Research & Development.

We start off the year with great news: the perspective together with the Feringa lab was accepted in Tetrahedron. We discuss the advantages of Tetrathiafulvalenes (TTF) and Thianthrenes (TT) in synthesis and materials application. We, the Lerch and Beil Labs, closed the year with an amazing, very international christmas party. The potluck dinner was spread all over the world, from China to Argentina and back to The Netherlands. Traditional German Feuerzangenbowle created a cozy atmosphere as well.

In October Prof. Siegfried Waldvogel, a world-leading expert in electroorganic chemistry, visited us at the RUG. The day was full of discussions and a handful of students were able to attend a meet-and-greet with Prof. Waldvogel and get to know him better in an extended lunch.

In September, the Beil Lab went to the national Dutch chemistry conference CHAINS, organized by NWO, the Dutch science foundation. It was two days of amazing chemistry spanning from Molecules of Life all the way to Fundamentals and Methods.
